carving pumpkins
I miss my dracula& my leprechaun asked:

I need to do small details…any tips?

  1. Virtually anything can be used to carve a pumpkin. If you’re doing really small details all the way through then small saws are pretty handy. You can buy a kit that has them or make your own out of coping saw blades in a handle. Make sure to carve the small details first and then any large openings. Less prone to breakage that way.

If you’re not planing on carving all the way through then woodworking gouges, chisels, and a sharp pocket knife are your best friends. The opposite advice applies here, carve the big details first and then refine small ones.

  2. If you have power tools use them scroll saws, drills etc. For detail work I usually will use the smallest handsaw I can find (the sort they have in kits are okay but take forever) I will also use cuticle scrapers to remove enough flesh to let light shine through but not actually make a hole in the pumpkin.
