I’ve done several things over the years…

generally I try to carve a scary face similar to a vampire or dr. frankenstein’s monster; then I scour the garage in search of old and rusty nails, screws, saw blades, etc… I insert the found objects into the pumpkin and use fake blood to make it look like the creature is bleeding

I’ve dabbled in some other techniques as well:

such as leaving a bit of guts hanging inside over the eyes to cast creeping shadows.

and different ways of shaving the inside skin very thin (or just shaving the outside skin off) so that the pumpkin glows.

last year I even carved a detailed Cheshire cat (Disney’s Alice In Wonderland) that I hand drew on the pumpkin before carving it.

basically I was wondering if there was a good site online for pumpkin carving ideas (OR if any of you have any ideas/techniques you’d like to share)…I’m getting kinda bored with the same old stuff and I really want to “wow” the trick or treaters this year

Thanks everyone!

I want to throw a Halloween Wedding, but don’t want to carve pumpkins the morning of. How soon can I carve them and have them ready for the big day, and which way is the best way to store them?

For the last two years it seems that the pumpkins the local stores pick up are nasty and they die fast. How can you tell if a pumpkin will make a good carving pumpkin? Does it have to be ripe? or close to ripe? Do you knock on it to tell if its a good pumpkin? I need some tips for picking pumpkins? Thanks!
