Cool alternative ideas for pumpkin carving?
mike
lisaclara asked:
I was thinking – WOW – with all of the great ideas for carving pumpkins that are out there – it’s getting very cool. Well, we’re not believers in everything associated with Halloween. What kind of thing could I carve in a pumpkin where people would say – WOW – that’s so cool – but would make a positive non-scary statement that people would enjoy? Maybe some cool symbol for life or peace or joy – but not the plain old symbols – something very cool and interesting. Any thoughts?

You can carve watermelons or any other gourd besides a pumpkin. I think that Martha Stewart carves other things besides gourds. And she doesn’t always do the traditional scary face, witches, etc.

I can give you a good idea for a halloween party.. Everyone brings a pumpkin, gets drunk and carves their pumpkin with sharp knives..Then they stack them on sticks outside the house and light them up like totem poles….
I just saw a local newscast in louisville where a wood carver carved pumpkin faces.. Not holes through the pumpkin but sculptures, real art. He never penetrated through the white part..Maybe you could do one of GW Bush and then blow it up with firecrackers at midnight.

you could carve a love tree in one.
I draw a tree with hearts and O’ and X’s on it …and call it the love tree. I draw it in a field of grass and have the hearts and o’s and x’s falling, sproting and growing the O’s and X’s and hearts…so carve a love tree on a big pumkin…draw it out and see what you think. “Love grows where it falls.” ccje

It would be hard, but you could do simple celtic symbols. you can just scrape the surface of the pumpkin down and not go all the way through. there are some simple knots that you could do like a trinity knot or something
